The Shadow was a radio drama from the early part of radio history, in the story a man is able to become invisible and be in a room where people are plotting each day to commit crimes. A fantastic story, but how sure we can be that our God knows what goes on in those back rooms. Yes, our God knows what actually lurks in the hearts of all men.
As we move into this brutal election cycle, we see men who use words to woo us into camps. As a Christian, I must point out the wolves among the sheep, and there are some big ones… One is selfish, and self focused. The man who made sin city even more sinful, is now running for president. He says some great stuff, but words don’t make him a Christian.
The true mark of a Christian is repentance, knowing that we are by our nature sinful men, and knowing that God paid our sin debt. For a true believer there is an aroma of compassion, peace, and submission. Haughty self-centered focus seems foolish, and is pushed away. The Christian is the most God-like when he is at the lowest, knowing that God is his power. For this he doesn’t take cheap shots, or look for opportunities for low blows at this fellow running mates..
Sin is the hearts of men… all men. As Christians let’s not look for a powerful, strong, bully as a leader. It’s easy to see how that would be better for us, but would it? Where is the strength of our country? Is it not God Himself who makes us strong? Let’s find the leaders who are self-less, compassionate, and who love God. These are men who will submit and serve
I would love to be “The Shadow” and see behind the scenes of these different campaigns, listen to the conversations, know the real stories, but I can’t. The good news is we have a God who does know the real heart of these men. With prayer and supplication we need to approach God for His will to be done, and for his plan to be fulfilled. Maybe He wants us to be persecuted, or he wants our nation to fail. If he does, then we should count it all as joy, and pray for the preservation of His true Church.
