It’s been almost a month ago that I started memorizing Matthew 5, and I’ve worked day by day, verse by verse to get it into my head. Memorizing is hard after years of not doing it, but I think I’m starting to get into the swing.
I have a resource page on this site on how to memorize in general, and I keep updating it when I find a new technique or tool. One big tool has been Verse Locker on my cell phone. Every free moment of my day, I use that app and reflect on the verse I’m memorizing or I go back and test my knowledge on other verses.
I’ve also found that print outs that hang around my house also help me to remember… to go back an memorize. You see, it’s not just a daily thing, it’s an every moment of every day thing.
Here I’ve given you cheat sheets, they don’t actually help you cheat, but they do help me in remember the verses: WORD Format or PDF Format these are two page documents, the first page is a point by point outline to help remember ideas. The second page is each verse, but only the first letter of each word, if you know the verse you won’t get tripped up, but it helps to refine your memory of specific word order.
I also break down the verses and print them out on sheets, you can get the version from your favorite online Bible site and just copy the text into a document and break it up. Spread out the verses, and take notes…. right on the page.
After you get the verses memorized…. your not done. Next you need to practice reciting them to yourself, use your phone, record yourself. Do it over and over, get those verses in your heart, get them in your mind, get them so you can just say them to yourself when you are in a situation that will help you to react.
