Paradise Lost

We must being our worldview at the the very beginning, which literally is with our father Adam and mother Eve. They had perfect free will, they could do anything without impunity or punishment from God their creator, except one thing. They had a perfect relationship, they had perfect communion, they were perfect, and they had it all. They didn’t know sickness, they didn’t know harm, they didn’t know abuse, they had no idea of what a blemish was. They lived in a utopia we couldn’t even fathom to imagine.

They had but one convenient, one promise they had to keep, it was quite simple, quite easy. It was not to eat of the fruit of one tree, “The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil”. But that wasn’t a problem, because there were tons of fruit bearing trees other than this one, they had apples, pears, oranges, lemons, fruit of all kinds, maybe even fruit we don’t have today. And this fruit, it was perfect, every apple was perfect, it had no blemish no worm, no disease. They could be filled on apples!

But that convenient was broken, Eve first, deceived by Satan, but it was Adam, the first man, who blindly followed his wife, knowing fully the consequence. At first, they thought maybe God wouldn’t notice, it was such a small fruit, but they noticed. They noticed they were naked, they took efforts to bind a few large fig leaves to cover themselves. God knew, and he went and sought them out. “Where are you?”, Fear gripped our first parents, they saw the awesome power of God, and knew they would die!

But God was patient, and bestowed grace upon them. It was Adam who was held to account, and both were punished. Eve was called to desire her husbands position, yet never actually be able to be her husband. Also she was cursed to have pain during child birth. Adam was punished by having to toil in his labor. Both were punished by having a limited number of days, followed by death.

On this day, sin entered the world. To cover Adam and Eve, an animal was killed and from that day on, our clothing has been a reminder of our vulnerabilities as humans. They were banned from the garden by the Angel of the Lord, who stood and held a flaming sword.

The Fig leave, the Sword they both point to sin. We live in a fallen world, we live east of Eden, we have lost paradise. Knowing that we live in a fallen world, we need first to have grace, not be mad when bad things happen to us, because bad things will always happen. This world is prone to destruction! It’s only by God’s grace that we have anything of value here. Knowing the destruction of sin, we also know the power of God. I hope in this blog, I can focus on God providence in a Fallen world.

BTW, the logo for this site is a fig leaf and flaming sword, surrounded by a Heptigon (seven pointed polygon) a symbol of God’s providence and grace.
