Broken People

Over the last few months after my wife left, I’m dealing with myself. A few months ago my oldest son also left, and now I’m really struggling to find a purpose to my life. I know I’m a flawed human being, I’m not perfect, and my major flaw is anger. I seek justice, I want life to be fair, but it isn’t, and sometimes it just doesn’t make sense.

I’m a broken person, I know God has a purpose for broken people, God builds His eternal Kingdom using broken people. It’s hard to say this, but I trust God will use the pain in my life now for His eternal glory. I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but I can be sure, the cards are stacked for that outcome.

I found this article that really breaks down the facts that most of the Biblical characters were flawed, actually all of them were flawed, except for Jesus Christ. We see from Adam and Eve in the fall, to sons Cain and Abel, Abraham (who didn’t trust God) to Moses (who had major anger issues), we see humanity is flawed!

But just because they are flawed, it doesn’t mean God can’t use them, actually God uses them in spite of the flaw! God uses them to be a blessing to others, but God also changes them and molds them into a new creation.

I have flaws, I know it. I’m working on fixing them, and this is God’s time to polish me for the purposes He has for me to ascend. Trusting that God is going to use this period for His glory is what wakes me in the morning and gets me out of bed.

My focus for the last few months is just reading scripture and letting it speak to my soul. Scripture itself is a great balm to heal the deepest wounds, and a medicine to heal the hardest aches. Often we don’t like where God takes us, but this is when we need to trust Him the most. Maybe I’ll start memorizing again, but for now It’s just learning how to abide in God’s will.

  1. Scripture can be a balm to a hurting soul, but it is the Holy Spirit’s application of that word and His work to build faith with preparation for what’s next in your life that will truly be restorative. And the Holy Spirit never works alone but always in concert with the Father and the Son. Your wife and son may have left, hopefully for only a time, but the Triune God never will.

This is a very hard time for you and we have been praying for you from afar. All I can tell you is that in the Lord’s economy, He never wastes effort or an opportunity. There must be something He is preparing you to do to have you in this forge of affliction, fashioning you into a finely honed instrument. I pray thag Paul’s testimony will be yours:

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, which comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any affliction by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation aboundeth through Christ. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (GNV)
