How I Memorize Scripture

So this is the first start at this endeavour to memorize complete chapters, but I will share what I’m trying, and update this page often.

Analyze the Text Method

  1. Make a plan for what is being memorized, be it a verse or chapter.  If it’s long break it into chunks, goals for each day.   Yesterday I memorized 5 verses, so today I’m going to do the same.
  2. Print out the verses in Large print, and put only what you will do that day on a page.
  3. Sit and read these words, focus on the connecting words.
  4. Circle the Nouns – Object and Subject
  5. Make a mental picture of those words, how do they look in your minds eye.
  6. Underline the Verbs – and draw arrows to the Nouns they are associated with.
  7. Make a mental picture of that action with that noun
  8. Then read it again, close your eyes, and watch the verse play out before your eyes
  9. Write it down, and check it against the verse.

Also on my Android, I found an app called Verse Locker, this works well also, it shows you the verse, and blurs out words, another mode just shows you the first letter, it will read you the verse, and then it prompts you to type in the verse from memory.

If you have a technique you would like to share or just a comment, leave it below in the comments. I’ll add your technique to the others I listed above, and I’ll try it out also. God made us all different so he made us store things in our brains different also, so the more ideas the better!
